Backed By Bango

“Backed By Bango” is our way of providing support and financial assistance to the charities and foundations that mean the most to the very people who have made Bango Bowls what it is today, our staff. The “Backed By Bango” program allows any member of #teambango to submit a charity or cause. Every quarter, our leadership team will review the submissions, will interview the submitting team member to learn about the cause, what it means to them and then choose a cause for Bango to support.

Our first initiative will be including “Round Up” in our sales process at every location. This will give our customers the opportunity to round their change up to the nearest dollar, as a donation. We will then match the donation from our customers. During the quarter we will promote the charities’ fundraising pages via our social media channels and will highlight their work with in store signage. Lastly, we will host a fundraising day at each store and will donate a portion of that day’s sales to the chosen initiative.

Giving back has always been something that was important to our organization. As a young business we haven’t always done as much as we would like, even though we always tried to chip in when a staff member or customer came to us with an idea. Like many others in the restaurant industry, our world was turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic and as many of us have now learned, sometimes adversity can also force positive change. After being inspired by our frontline workers during the start of the pandemic we started raising funds to donate meals to local medical professionals. Thanks to our incredible customers, we were providing over 1000 meals a week to local frontline workers that dedicated their time and safety to battling COVID-19. That effort taught us that giving was not something we should start down the road but that it was an essential part of our core mission. This lesson has led us to create and launch “Backed By Bango.” We hope that you will join us and our team in helping to support the causes that mean the most to the Bango Bowls family.

Our current initiative

Team Member: Carly Dietz

Store: Larchmont

Supporting: Pencils of Promise (PoP)

Meet Carly Dietz, a team member at our Larchmont location. Carly is one of the driving forces behind the entire “Backed By Bango” initiative. Carly came to us months ago to tell her story and our jaws dropped. She has been working as a team member at Bango for over a year and every single dollar she has made at Bango has been donated to her cause, Pencils of Promise. Carly makes us want to be better people and has inspired us to do more to help.

Pencils of Promise (PoP) is a non profit organization that helps build schools and increases educational opportunities in the developing world. Since 2008 PoP has built 533 schools, supported 2165 teachers, and impacted 110,380 students in Ghana, Guatemala, Laos, and Nicaragua. Adam Braun is the founder of PoP and was inspired to create this organization while traveling abroad as a college student. He met a young boy begging on the streets of India, who when asked what he wanted most in the world, simply answered, “a pencil.” Carly read Braun’s book In 8th grade and became inspired to raise money for PoP. Carly’s main goal was to build another school. From that day Carly was committed to her goal of $50,000 and building these kids a school. Bango Bowls has decided to “back” Carly and out our entire company’s efforts into helping her hit her $50,000 goal.

If you are feeling as inspired as we are, here is her fundraising page to donate directly.
